Members of the Women's Club of the Parliament of Montenegro have announced that they strongly condemn the threats, chauvinistic messages and hate speech directed at MP Slađana Kaluđerović. The Women's Club stated that threats of expulsion and attacks for expressing a political stance represent an unacceptable attack on basic human rights, freedom of thought and democratic values on which our society is based.
"We call on the competent authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible without delay, in order to prevent the further spread of hatred, intimidation and violence in public spaces," the statement said.
The future of Montenegro is not built on hatred and deepening divisions, the Women's Club said.
"Everyone has the right to an opinion and political stance, but no one has the right to threaten the dignity, safety and integrity of another person. Social networks, instead of being a space for dialogue and exchange of arguments, are increasingly being abused in the most mundane way, and we are also witnessing so-called "heroism" behind the keyboard. It is time to put an end to this," the statement concludes.
