Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović today received the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, Juraj Blanar, who is on an official visit to Montenegro, and during the meeting, the friendly and partnership relations between the two countries were confirmed, with mutual readiness to further improve political and economic cooperation, the President's Office announced.
Milatović recalled the visit of Slovak President Peter Pellegrini to Montenegro in May 2025, and announced a return official visit to Slovakia in mid-June 2026.
The interlocutors welcomed the decision to open a diplomatic and consular mission of Montenegro in Bratislava, assessing that this step will further strengthen political dialogue, economic cooperation and investment activities.
A special emphasis of the conversation was on the European Union's enlargement policy and Montenegro's European path.
"Full membership in the European Union remains our absolute priority. With the support of friends like Slovakia, I am confident that Montenegro can complete negotiations by the end of 2026 and achieve the goal of membership by 2028," said Milatović.
Blanar, as announced, emphasized Slovakia's "strong and continuous support" for Montenegro's European integration, emphasizing that he sees Montenegro as a leader in the process of accession to the European Union.
