The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, was presented with the Golden Knight's Cross, a high decoration of the European Order of Wine Knights, in Cetinje.
This was announced today by the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.
As they said in the statement, this award is awarded for contribution to the affirmation of wine culture and the promotion of European values.
Milatović emphasized that he sees this recognition as an additional affirmation of the rich Montenegrin wine tradition.
In particular, as stated in the statement, he pointed out the importance of indigenous varieties, such as Kratošija and Vranac, which testify to the continuity and authenticity of domestic viticulture.
Speaking about the development of winemaking in Montenegro, he emphasized the country's commitment to further strengthen its position on the European wine map.
"Montenegro has the potential and ambition to position itself as a recognizable wine destination. In these efforts, it will have my full support, with personal and institutional commitment," Milatović emphasized, adding that the development of the wine sector represents an important segment of sustainable development and strengthening of Montenegro's international reputation.
He thanked the European Order of Wine Knights for their dedicated work and partnership in promoting wine culture, emphasizing that cooperation within international organizations contributes to networking and stronger affirmation of Montenegrin wine potential at the European and global levels.
"This act further confirms the responsible state and spiritual attitude towards preserving and improving the winemaking tradition - in honor of those who created it and with a clear awareness of responsibility towards the generations to whom we are leaving it as a legacy. The Golden Knight's Cross decoration, which is awarded exclusively to heads of state, was previously presented to Zuzana Čaputová, former president of Slovakia, Árpád Genc, former president of Hungary, and Milan Kučan, former president of Slovenia," reads a statement from Milatović's Public Relations Office.
