The Democratic People's Party (DNP) strongly condemns the outrageous and worrying action of the Police Administration (UP), which waited for journalist Petar Komnenić last night after the end of a television show and invited him for an informative interview, just because he revealed the truth to the citizens, the Democratic People's Party (DNP) announced today.
"This act represents a gross violation of media freedom and an open form of pressure and intimidation of journalists, which is absolutely unacceptable in a democratic society. The actions of the Police Directorate in this case can be compared to absurdity, because it would be the same as if they had also summoned judge Vesna Kovačević, who pronounced the verdict on the fugitive Miloš Medenica, for an informational interview," the DNP statement states.
The party, led by Milan Knežević, added that the citizens of Montenegro could clearly see the extent of the institutional collapse last night.
"Therefore, we believe that it would be extremely moral and responsible for all the leading people in the security sector to resign without delay. If this does not happen, we believe that it is the obligation of Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to dismiss all the leading people in the security sector, but also to take personal and political responsibility and resign himself. Although our position towards the Vijesti media outlet has been known for a long time and although we do not agree with their editorial policy, we consider this type of treatment towards any journalist to be deeply frightening. This act, unfortunately, once again confirms that we are witnessing the death of institutions and the complete collapse of a system in which the repressive apparatus is used to deal with the truth and free speech," said the DNP.
Journalist and author of the show Načisto on Television Vijesti, Petar Komnenić, gave a statement to the police last night in his capacity as a citizen regarding the communication he had during last night's show Načisto with a person who introduced himself as Miloš Medenica.
When asked why he was at the police station, he said that he had not been detained.
Last night, Komnenić and his interlocutors had a conversation during the commercials with the virtual or real Miloš Medenica, who answered his questions.
The recording was released after the show's participants Danilo Šaranović - Minister of Internal Affairs (Democrats), Filip Adžić - former Minister of Internal Affairs (URA), and Mihailo Anđušić - member of the Parliamentary Committee for Security and Defense (DPS) left the studio.
Before last night's show, Komnenić announced that he had received a message on a phone application sent by a person claiming to be Miloš Medenica.
Previously, a video appeared on the X network in which a person claiming to be Medenica says that she sent a message to Komnenić.
Miloš Medenica, son of former Supreme Court President Vesna Medenica, escaped from house arrest at the end of January.
Miloš Medenica and Vesna Medenica were sentenced to multi-year sentences on January 28 by the first-instance decision of the Council of Judge Vesna Kovačević - 10 years and two months, or a decade in prison.
The Medenices did not attend the verdict, and even before the decision was announced, the police determined that Miloš Medenice was not in the family apartment at Ulcinjska 2, and subsequent investigation determined that he had left just a few hours before the criminal panel's decision was announced in the courtroom.
On January 29, the Podgorica Higher Court issued an order to issue an arrest warrant for Miloš Medenica.
The red notice for Miloš Medenica was published publicly on the official Interpol website at the request of the Montenegrin police on January 30th.
Miloš Medenica was convicted of creating a criminal organization, the continued criminal offense of smuggling, two criminal offenses of unlawful influence through aiding and abetting, as well as for preventing evidence.
After the guilty verdict, the court ordered Miloš Medenica to be detained due to the risk of flight.
He was acquitted of charges of illegal possession of weapons and facilitating the consumption of narcotics by multiple persons.
According to Judge Kovačević's verdict, Vesna and Miloš Medenica must also pay 50.000 euros each.
