Montenegro remains committed to gradually increasing defense spending, said Defense Minister Dragan Krapović, adding that this government department is dedicated to the country's credible membership in NATO.

As announced by the Ministry of Defense, Krapović reminded in Brussels that Montenegro allocated 2,05 percent of GDP for defense last year.

"Montenegro allocated 2,05 percent of GDP to defense last year, which concretely confirmed our responsible approach to implementing the conclusions from the NATO agenda, which was clearly recognized at the recently concluded meeting of defense ministers of NATO countries," said Krapović.

He explained that last year, 42,83 percent of the defense budget was invested in the modernization of the Montenegrin Army and strengthening national defense capabilities.

"We remain committed to gradually increasing defense spending in the coming period, in accordance with the decisions of NATO leaders at the Summit in The Hague," said Krapović.

According to him, the defense department continues to confirm with concrete results its unequivocal commitment to one of Montenegro's key foreign policy priorities - credible membership in NATO.

"Aware of the fact that the collective security system is only as strong as the states that make it up," Krapović said.
