Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović met with Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Defense Nils Schmid during the Munich Security Conference.
As announced by the Ministry of Defense, during the meeting, the interlocutors noted that bilateral defense cooperation is at a high level and expressed their willingness to intensify it in the coming period.
"The Minister emphasized the essential role of the Federal Republic of Germany in the process of strengthening the European pillar of transatlantic security, as well as in the efforts that the European Union is making to strengthen the defense dimension. He emphasized the traditional support of official Berlin for the EU enlargement process, particularly emphasizing the importance of the Berlin Process, which Montenegro chairs this year," it was announced.
In addition to progress on the path of European integration, Krapović informed his interlocutor that Montenegro is hosting this year's EU-Western Balkans Summit, thus confirming its unequivocal commitment to the values inherited by the European Union.
"The interlocutors exchanged views on current global developments, agreeing that it is crucial that NATO remains the core of collective defense, while demonstrating a unified approach by all allies," it was announced.
During a bilateral meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia Robert Kalinak, it was added, modalities for deepening bilateral defense cooperation were discussed.
"Also, the interlocutors discussed the dynamics of implementing the demanding NATO agenda, with a focus on credible allocation for defense. In the context of a strengthened deterrence and defense position, Minister Krapović emphasized the importance of the NATO Forward Presence Land Forces (NATO FlF) battle groups, one of which is located in Slovakia, adding that deterrence and defense is a key task of the Alliance in which the Allies should continuously invest their capacities and capabilities. Mutual expectation was expressed that bilateral cooperation between the two countries, in addition to the alliance in NATO, will be strengthened through Montenegro's future membership in the European Union, for which there is unreserved support from Slovakia," it was announced.
