On the occasion of Sretenje, the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia and the Day of Republika Srpska, the Mayor of Pljevlja, Dario Vraneš, paid a two-day visit to Banja Luka and Višegrad, as part of the national event "Sretenje Week", announced the Mayor's Office.
It is stated that a ceremonial Sretenjska Academy was held in the hall of the SC "Borik" in Banja Luka, attended by the newly elected President of the Republic of Srpska Siniša Karan, the President of the National Assembly Nenad Stevandić, Prime Minister Savo Minić with ministers, advisor to the President of Serbia Miloš Vučević, SNSD leader Milorad Dodik, ambassadors, veterans' organizations, the diplomatic corps and numerous guests.
Wreaths were laid at the monument to leader Karađorđe, and delegations also laid wreaths in front of the monument to fallen soldiers in the Central Town Square in Višegrad.
Vranes laid a wreath at the memorial in the center of Višegrad with the inscription "To the Serbian heroes of the Serbian people from Montenegro", which, as he stated, encouraged the memory of the unity and courage of the Serbian people on both sides of the Drina River and expressed respect for the fallen freedom fighters," the statement said.
"Sretenje is a national holiday for all Serbs, regardless of which country they live in. In the fight for freedom, Serbs knew no borders and always came to each other's aid. In the last wars in the last decade of the 20th century, over 40 Pljevlja residents gave their lives for the freedom of our people. We must not forget these heroes, but rather remind them of their heroic deeds, always, in every place, and especially where they gave their lives. The salvation of the Serbian people lies in unity, regardless of which country they live in; the borders imposed on us must not divide us. I lay a wreath on behalf of all Serbs from Montenegro," said Vraneš after laying the wreaths.
The meeting, as a national holiday, is celebrated in numerous cities and municipalities in Serbia, Republika Srpska, and in Montenegro only in Pljevlja, where for the third year in a row, a ceremonial academy will be held at the Cultural Center on Monday at 19 p.m.
