Politicians from Montenegro congratulated Serbia on its Statehood Day.

Statehood Day is the main national holiday of Serbia and has been celebrated since 2002 on February 15th and 16th to commemorate two historical dates. Both occurred on the church holiday of Sretenje.

Statehood Day is celebrated in memory of the day of the First Serbian Uprising in 1804. Then, on the day when, in 1835, Serbia, then a principality, received its first Constitution.

Šćekić: Let us not give up on each other because of fleeting trifles, one-sidedness and selfishness

The President of the People's Trust Movement, Dragoslav Šćekić, sent his congratulations on the occasion of the "Statehood Day of Fraternal Serbia to the entire Serbian people, wherever they may be", as well as to the state leadership of Serbia.

"The choice of the Serbian people to link their love, courage, sacrifice and unequivocal fight for freedom to the most sacred and significant dates was not accidental. So today, on the day when God and man meet in Christ, we are reminded that our ancestors were closer to Christ, and they began their every aspiration for liberation from oppression with a prayer - for the strength of the justice of the Almighty. That prayer required national unity, love and the willingness to subordinate personal weaknesses to the common struggle for freedom and dignity," said Šćekić.

By celebrating Sretenje, as he said, "we celebrate the granted request of our great ancestors and the great leader Karađorđe," but also "the commitment we have made not to renounce each other because of fleeting trifles, one-sidedness, and selfishness."

"May this holiday remind us of the responsibility we have towards each other and towards future generations. Happy Assumption Day and Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia. Long live Montenegro! Long live Serbia," said Šćekić.

Mandić congratulates Serbian Statehood Day

The President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Mandić, congratulated the entire Serbian people, President Aleksandar Vučić, Prime Minister Đuro Macut, and the President of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, on the Statehood Day of Serbia.

He reminded the X network that Serbian Statehood Day, the Sretenje Gospodnje, is celebrated in memory of the day when the Assembly in Orašac was held in 1804, which began the First Serbian Uprising, and the day on which the Sretenje Constitution of the Principality of Serbia was adopted in 1835.

Mandić stated that Sretenje does not only represent the moment when the Serbian people in Šumadija stood up to defend their freedom and restore their own statehood, but also a date celebrated by all other Serbs outside Serbia.

"The ruler and bishop of Montenegro, Petar II Petrović Njegoš, the greatest Serbian poet of that time, dedicated his most important poem, Gorski vijenac, to the ashes of the father of Serbia - leader Karađorđe," Mandić pointed out.

According to him, "the enthusiasm for the victories of the insurgents over the powerful Ottoman units permanently imprinted these events in the collective memory of the Serbian people and represents one of the important strongholds of the national character of our people."

Knežević: The independent and sovereign policy of official Serbia should be an example to all

"Expressing sincere satisfaction that the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, on the occasion of Statehood Day, as a sign of respect for Serbia, the Serbian people and Serbia's place in the world, has received congratulations from the highest world addresses from more than twenty countries, including US President Donald Trump and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, DNP President Milan Knežević sends congratulations on the occasion of Statehood Day to President Aleksandar Vučić, Prime Minister Dr. Đuro Macut and all citizens of the Republic of Serbia," the DNP announced.

Knežević, it is noted, emphasizes that in addition to the numerous congratulations from around the world on the occasion of Sretenje - Statehood Day, special respect also deserves congratulations from the surrounding countries, from all fraternal countries, "which wish the Serbian people well and further prosperity for Serbia on its unstoppable path of all-round development."

Knežević said that the independent and sovereign policy of official Serbia should be an example to all countries in the region in times of global challenges.
