The municipalities of Budva, Plav and Plužine have until March 2 to elect vice-presidents of local governments, the Ministry of Public Administration announced.
The department announced that they had conducted supervision in all local self-government units regarding the implementation of Article 58 of the Law on Local Self-Government, which refers to the obligation to appoint a deputy mayor.
"The supervision findings showed that all local government units have fulfilled this legal obligation, except for the municipalities of Plav, Plužine and Budva. On this occasion, the Ministry has drawn up supervision findings and sent clear guidelines to the presidents of the aforementioned municipalities for the proper and urgent implementation of the law, with a deadline for action of March 2, 2026," the statement reads.
The findings, they said, will also be submitted to municipal assemblies, which, within their jurisdiction, have a supervisory role over the work of the executive branch at the local level.
"MPA will continue to consistently monitor the implementation of the Law on Local Self-Government and take measures to ensure the lawful and responsible functioning of local authorities, confirming the principle that the law applies equally to everyone - without exceptions," the department said.
