The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will not be dismantled as long as there are those who literally release criminals in the courts and arrest those who worked for the benefit of Montenegro, United Montenegro MP Vladimir Dobricanin announced today.
"We are not surprised by the decision of the special judge for the crackdown on DPS opponents, Suzana Mugoša, to imprison professor Vesna Bratić for 30 days. We assumed this, because they were deliberately waiting for the person in question to take over 'duty' and 'solve' the Bratić case," Dobričanin pointed out in a statement.
He added that this is just proof of what the United Party has been talking about for years – "that the DPS has not been dismantled as long as there are those who literally release criminals in the courts and arrest those who worked for the benefit of Montenegro."
"Professor Vesna Bratić cannot be forgiven for dismantling the DPS/SDP party cadres who poisoned our children with party curricula, which, unfortunately, we still apply. Instead of a reward for historical resistance to partyocracy, Vesna Bratić is getting prison. How refreshing. Regardless of Judge Mugoša's apartheid decisions, we hope that, after the appeal filed by Vesna Bratić's lawyer, the Trial Chamber will make a fair decision and urgently release her and allow Professor Vesna Bratić to prove her innocence as a free citizen," said Dobričanin.
Former Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vesna Bratić was remanded in custody for up to 30 days last night.
The decision was made by Suzana Mugoša, an investigative judge at the Higher Court in Podgorica.
Bratić was remanded in custody due to the risk of flight and influencing witnesses.
She was arrested the day before yesterday in an investigation by the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) for damage of at least 400.000 euros caused by the dismissal of more than 140 kindergarten, primary and secondary school directors.
Bratić held the position of minister for just over a year - from the first post-DPS government elected on December 4, 2020, to February 4, 2022, when she was voted out of office.
In the first half of her term, she dismissed almost all school principals in Montenegro.
While the opposition accused her of political revenge, Bratić justified her dismissals in education by depoliticizing the education system, claiming that some of the dismissed directors had abused educational institutions for political purposes.
The day before yesterday, after a hearing at the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) in Podgorica, she was ordered to be detained, and her legal representative, attorney Mitar Šušić, told "Vijesti" that Bratić denied guilt and stated that she had dismissed directors legally.
Bratić is the president of the Political Council in United Montenegro.
