Historical results in the fight against organized crime, strong improvements in border control, and a comprehensive process of modernization and digitalization of the security system confirm that the European Union (EU) security system can count on Montenegro, said Minister of Interior Danilo Šaranović.

The Montenegrin Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced that Šaranović was on an official visit to Hungary, at the invitation of his Hungarian counterpart, Sándor Pinter.

"During the visit, several bilateral meetings were held with the aim of deepening the otherwise excellent cooperation between the Ministries of Internal Affairs of Montenegro and Hungary and further concretizing cooperation between the two police forces with a focus on strengthening material and technical capacities," the statement said.

It is stated that Pinter emphasized Hungary's support for the finalization of Montenegro's integration into the EU and particularly affirmed the institutional maturity and credibility of the Montenegrin system, which has the status of a reliable partner in the collective security system.

Šaranović assessed that Montenegro today, with the results it is achieving and the reforms it is implementing, already functions as a full member of the EU.

"Historical results in the fight against organized crime, strong improvements in border control, along with a comprehensive process of modernization and digitalization of the security system send a message that the EU security system can count on Montenegro," emphasized Šaranović.

The Ministry of the Interior said that a visit by the Border Police Sector to Hungarian colleagues has been arranged, with the aim of ensuring that, through their expert support and the implementation of the Intergovernmental Agreement worth EUR 54,2 million, the Police Directorate will receive the most modern systems and material and technical resources as soon as possible, which will mean the announced revolution in the digitalization of work processes in our police.

"As we announced, this will mean the implementation of a stationary radar system, the expansion of video surveillance of public areas in all cities, electronic surveillance of the Montenegrin border from land and air, the digitalization of border control at road border crossings and airports, as well as the procurement of numerous other systems and equipment to the highest standards," the statement said.

Šćepanović pointed to strategic plans for the further development of police capacities, emphasizing the strong process of transformation of the police organization and its positioning as a modern European security service.

The Ministry of Interior said that, as part of the visit, Šaranović visited the Counter-Terrorism Center, where the Montenegrin delegation was presented with the work methods, organizational structure, and operational capacities of this specialized institution.

"Models for improving cooperation, exchanging experiences in the field of combating terrorism and extremism, as well as the application of modern technological solutions, specialist equipment and strengthening the capacities of elite police units were discussed," the statement said.
