93 Montenegrin citizens, mostly tourists, have requested assistance from diplomatic and consular missions of Montenegro to return from several countries in the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced, adding that they do not have precise data on the total number of Montenegrin citizens living and working in the countries of that region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the MINA agency that Montenegrin citizens have requested assistance to return to Montenegro from Jordan, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran and Egypt.
"These are mostly tourists who, due to the current circumstances, found themselves in the aforementioned countries and expressed interest in returning to Montenegro, with some of them having already returned to their homes," the Ministry explained.
They added that, according to information from the Embassy of Montenegro in Abu Dhabi, around 160 Montenegrin citizens are in the UAE with regulated residential status, with whom the Embassy is in contact.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that they currently do not have precise data on the total number of Montenegrin citizens living and working in the Middle East, since there is no legal obligation to register them with diplomatic and consular missions.
"Records are kept exclusively on a voluntary basis, that is, in cases where citizens contact the Embassy or Consulate themselves," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
The department emphasized that they are actively monitoring the development of the situation and remain in constant communication with all Montenegrin citizens who have requested assistance, in order to provide adequate and timely support.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they added, is in communication with the relevant ministries and institutions of partner countries that have offered assistance with the aim of coordinated and efficient action.
