Prosecutorial Council: Mandić jeopardized the prosecutor's independence with his statement on the arrest of Vesna Bratić

The Prosecutorial Council has expressed the opinion that the Speaker of the Parliament Andrija Mandić has jeopardized the independence of the state prosecutor, with a statement made in connection with the arrest of former Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vesna Bratić.

At its session on February 19, the Council gave its opinion that the State Prosecutor's main complaint was related to the threat to his independence by the head of parliament.

"Namely, the statement of the President of the Parliament of Montenegro 'If someone abuses power, and we will see what will happen by the end of this process, the same thing will happen to those who lightly put handcuffs on others' hands, and then waited for them to be put on handcuffs' jeopardized the independence of the State Prosecutor, in accordance with the provisions of Article 73a of the Rules of Procedure of the Prosecutorial Council. When giving its opinion, the Council took into account the institutional authority of the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, and a certain possible influence on public opinion, and this type of inappropriate statements undermines public trust in the work of the State Prosecutor's Office," the Prosecutorial Council said in a statement.
