The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) claims that it has no information that the Montenegrin chargé d'affaires in any EU member state has been summoned for an interview due to the slogan "28 by 28 - the next EU member", which has recently been displayed on the aircraft of the national airline "Air Montenegro".
This was stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to "Vijesti" yesterday, in response to a question about whether it is true that the chargé d'affaires in an important EU country was summoned for a meeting because of the aforementioned message on the plane, as claimed by a member of parliament from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS). Ivan Vukovic.
He told the editorial office yesterday that he could not discuss the details of the (alleged) case.
Appearing last night on the show "Načisto" on TV Vijesti, the DPS MP said that the charge d'affaires was in question, claiming that there is a note about everything at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims that there have been no official reactions on this issue, nor any diplomatic addresses to the diplomatic and consular network of Montenegro in EU member states.
"The ministry is in regular communication with our diplomatic and consular missions, and any activities of this nature would be recorded through the usual diplomatic channels," explained the department it manages. Ervin Ibrahimovic (Bosniak Party).
They state that the MFA has exclusively official information that comes through institutional communication with diplomatic and consular missions and host countries, and reiterate that in this specific case - such information was not received.
At the end of February, Montenegro launched a campaign with the slogan "28 by 28 - the next EU member" (Montenegro as the 28th member of the EU by 2028) and branded the aircraft of the national airline "Air Montenegro" with that message.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajic (Europe Now Movement) stated on that occasion that the slogan on the plane was not symbolism, but a strategic statement of the state.
"We are bringing Europe to Montenegro and we are bringing Montenegro to Europe! Across the EU, our national airline carries the message - Montenegro is the next EU member. Montenegro knows what it offers to Europe - not only a magical coastline and magnificent mountains, but also proof that it is possible to be small and be a home for everyone. It also offers stability, new energy and confirmation that we can be united in diversity, which is the motto of the EU," he said.
Ivan Vuković announced on Wednesday that, while European partners are "trying to push Montenegro towards the EU", the ruling majority is trying to implement the so-called Georgian scenario - open persecution of political dissenters, threats to journalists, NGOs, members of the academic community...
"Fortunately, this is increasingly understood in Brussels. The empty platitudes of government officials are increasingly less believed (because of the slogan '28 by 28' on 'Air Montenegro' planes, the chargé d'affaires in an important EU country was almost summoned for an interview). Their meetings with their European colleagues are increasingly unpleasant. You can lie to some people...", he wrote on the "Iks" network.
The Deputy Prime Minister responded to the MP and the Vice President of the strongest opposition party. Filip Ivanovic (Europe Now Movement), stating that this is the second time in just a few days "that Vuković has been telling untruths of this type."
"With all due respect, there are only two possibilities: either you are deliberately making it up or someone is deliberately misleading you in order to undermine your credibility. If this is the first, stop; and if it is the second, at least check your sources before you run off again," Ivanovic wrote on "Iks".
Vuković replied that the information is easily verifiable and available to the general public.
"That's how it was in December when I informed the public about France's position regarding the chapters (when Paris briefly blocked the closing of two negotiation chapters with Montenegro - ed.). It's always like that," he said. B. Ma.
Aircraft branding is just the beginning of a series of activities
The Government announced at the end of February that the aircraft branding is part of a series of activities that will be implemented in cooperation with institutions, businesses, artists, scientists and athletes.
"So that, in addition to the domestic, the European public would be informed about Montenegro's results in the EU integration process and the ambition of full membership by 2028," the executive branch said in a statement.
