Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović laid wreaths today at the "People's Hero Milovan Šaranović" barracks in Danilovgrad and the "Vojvoda Marko Miljanov Popović" barracks in Podgorica, on the occasion of the anniversary of the beginning of the NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1999.
On that occasion, the minister paid tribute to the victims, emphasizing that remembering them is a permanent obligation of society, the Ministry of Defense announced.
"Today, we remember with reverence all the innocent victims and express our deep sympathy to their families. Their suffering remains a lasting warning about the consequences of conflict and the importance of preserving peace," said Krapović.
He emphasized that it is important to cultivate a culture of remembrance and responsibly view the contemporary security context.
"We are aware that the events of 1999 have left a deep mark on our society. Today, as a member of NATO, Montenegro operates in a significantly different security framework, contributing to joint efforts to preserve peace and stability," said the minister.
Krapović emphasized that Montenegro's membership in NATO implies a responsibility to build a more secure future through partnership and dialogue.
"Our obligation is to contribute to peace, cooperation and stability by learning from the past," he concluded.
The wreath was laid by the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, Brigadier General Miodrag Vuksanović, together with the minister.
