The presidents of the municipal boards of the Bosniak Party (BS) and the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Ernad Suljević and Elvir Zvrko, have reached an agreement for the two parties to continue exercising power in Bijelo Polje.
Suljević explained to "Vijesti" that for now he will not seek the position of Secretary for Investments, as long as DPS fulfills the obligations of the agreement regarding investment projects.
According to the newspaper, an agreement was reached on other key conditions of the Bosniak Party - the implementation of capital projects, especially when it comes to road infrastructure in places where Bosniaks live in the majority, as well as the formation of the "Avdo Međedović" Public Institution and resolving the issue of the remains of the Hadžidanuša Mosque in the center of Bijelo Polje.
BS points out that the focus of their demands, as was speculated in the public, was never the position of the mayor of the municipality.
DPS: Priority is budget adoption and project implementation
The Bijelo Polje DPS officially announced that they have reached an agreement with the Bosniak Party on continuing cooperation.
"In the previous period, intensive and substantive discussions were held, with the aim of finding solutions that will ensure the stable functioning of local government and the continued development of the Municipality. The agreement reached is based on the principles of responsibility, mutual respect and, above all, the interests of the citizens of Bijelo Polje," the statement reads.
They said that the priority in the coming period will be the adoption of the budget and the implementation of planned projects, especially in the areas of infrastructure, support for agriculture, economic development and improvement of utility services.
"Both sides agree that political dialogue must serve stability and development, not blockades and stalemates. In that spirit, the agreement reached represents an important step towards ensuring the continuity of the work of institutions and further improving the quality of life of citizens. The public will be informed in a timely manner about all subsequent steps," they said.
Petrić: The ruling majority in Bijelo Polje subordinated the budget to the political market
Today's session of the Bijelo Polje Municipal Assembly, which was scheduled for 10 am, has been postponed to 15 pm, the assembly service announced earlier today.
Europe Now (PES) official Dražen Petrić criticized the postponement of the session again, calling the current situation "politically grotesque".
Petrić points out that the behavior of the ruling majority shows complete lack of seriousness towards the city and its citizens.
"It is clear that the budget and development of the municipality are secondary and that the political scene has been turned into a marketplace," Petrić said.
Commenting on the blockade of parliament, he stressed that capital projects have fallen victim to intra-party bargaining.
While waiting for meetings between the leaders of the local committees of BS and DPS, Ernad Suljević and Elvir Zvrk, Petrić concludes that the interests of citizens are subordinate to the fight for positions, such as the position of Secretary for Investments, and resolving identity issues that are used as a trump card in "blackmail".
