Nikolić: Spajić creates the illusion of normal political conditions in anticipation of Marta Kos' arrival

The head of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) parliamentary group in the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Nikolić, announced today that the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić, is creating the illusion of normal political conditions in Montenegro in anticipation of the arrival of European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

"Although the invitation for the meeting with the working title: "Fulfillment of remaining obligations in the process of accession to the European Union" was sent via WhatsApp message, the day before the date you propose, I thank you for your invitation. It is clear that this is your attempt, in anticipation of the arrival of the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Ms. Marta Kos, to Montenegro, to create the appearance of normality in the political situation in our country," Nikolić said in a statement.

He added that DPS clearly told Spajić in Parliament, and he, as he stated, repeats it to him, that they do not want us to participate in similar political games.

"As someone who legitimized every destructive political decision of the ruling majority, starting from the adoption of the Resolution on the Genocide in Jasenovac, through the unconstitutional retirement of a Constitutional Court judge, to the recent adoption of anti-constitutional, anti-European and anti-democratic laws on internal affairs and the ANB, we consider you solely to blame for the political crisis that Montenegro is currently in. Instead of taking advantage of the ever stronger support of our European partners, state responsibility and the enthusiasm of the pro-European opposition, you have crucially contributed to creating a socio-political environment that is in no way similar to what should characterize the first EU member state," Nikolić pointed out.

He also said that Spajić's attitude towards the issue of Montenegro's European integration, "the most important strategic priority for the development of our state and our society, is proven to be insincere, superficial and essentially amateurish."

"Therefore, we leave you to discuss this with your political comrades, proven Europeans from the former DF and the Democrats. After all, your Minister of European Affairs recently clearly stated that the participation of the strongest opposition party in Montenegro in the integration process is not even necessary for its success," Nikolić concluded.

"Vijesti" reported earlier today that Spajić held a meeting in the Government with representatives of the parliamentary majority, on the topic of the pace of adoption of laws from the European agenda.

The meeting was held ahead of the visit of European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Marta Kos.

The leader and MP of the Civic Movement (GP) URA, Dritan Abazović, said at today's parliamentary session that the opposition will not participate in the meeting with Spajić.

Spajić's cabinet officially announced that at the meeting between Spajić and the leader of the parliamentary majority, it was stated that the Government and the parliamentary majority are fully committed to fulfilling all obligations from the European agenda, and that key laws need to be adopted by the end of July, in order to close all negotiation chapters between Montenegro and the European Union this year.
