The meeting organized by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić is a clear sign that Montenegro's European path requires a clear focus, responsibility and daily work, announced today Boris Pejović, member of the presidency of the Europe Now Movement (PES) and Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro.

"I want to be completely clear - the work on EU integration is not finished. We have a lot of work ahead of us. The messages coming from a part of the public that Montenegro will enter the European Union 'whether we work or not' are not valid. Such an approach is irresponsible and dangerous, because it underestimates the effort needed to close the negotiation chapters and meet the standards expected of us. On the contrary, we have concrete tasks ahead of us, primarily the adoption of key laws from the European agenda, which will be a test of our political maturity and institutional responsibility in the coming months," Pejović stressed in a statement.

He added that, in this context, it is particularly important that the Prime Minister will talk to representatives of the opposition tomorrow.

He also said that European integration must be a joint project, above daily politics and party differences.

"Until July 31st, we are facing the most intensive period of work in the Parliament since the introduction of multi-party politics. This is not a platitude, it is a reality that requires maximum commitment from all MPs," said Pejović.

According to him, it is time to show that we can do more, faster and better, not for the sake of Brussels, but for the sake of the citizens of Montenegro.

"The European path is not a promise, but an obligation. And now is the time to fulfill that obligation," he concluded.

"Vijesti" reported earlier today that Spajić held a meeting in the Government with representatives of the parliamentary majority, on the topic of the pace of adoption of laws from the European agenda.

The meeting was held ahead of the visit of European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Marta Kos.

The leader and MP of the Civic Movement (GP) URA, Dritan Abazović, said at today's parliamentary session that the opposition will not participate in the meeting with Spajić.

The head of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) parliamentary group in the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Nikolić, announced today that the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić, is creating the illusion of normal political conditions in Montenegro in anticipation of the arrival of European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

Spajić's cabinet officially announced that at the meeting between Spajić and the leader of the parliamentary majority, it was stated that the Government and the parliamentary majority are fully committed to fulfilling all obligations from the European agenda, and that key laws need to be adopted by the end of July, in order to close all negotiation chapters between Montenegro and the European Union this year.
