The Municipality of Šavnik will mark the anniversary - two decades since the restoration of Montenegro's independence - responsibly, with dignity and with full awareness of the historical and state-building significance of this date, it was announced today by the Office of the President of the Municipality of Šavnik, Jugoslav Jakić (DPS).
"The decision made in 2006 was the foundation of the modern development of the state and an important pledge for its European future, which today recognizes and broadens the social and political spectrum than was the case at that time. It is precisely this fact - that we are increasingly gathering around key values as a society - that gives additional weight to this anniversary. It obliges us to mark it as a joint success of all citizens, in the spirit of unity and responsibility towards the future. We are particularly encouraged by the fact that Montenegro today occupies a leading position in the European integration process, which gives this anniversary an additional contemporary dimension," the statement emphasizes.
Jakić's office added that they believe that the absence of a high-level celebration of such a date would be inappropriate.
"Two decades of state independence represent an important civilizational and political step forward, and it is natural that local self-government actively contributes to its celebration, in accordance with its capacities and responsibilities," the statement reads.
Jakić's office said that the commemoration program will not be limited exclusively to ceremonial and cultural and artistic events.
"The planned activities will encompass a broader social framework, through events that connect tradition and contemporary values, with a special focus on youth, education, culture and local development. When it comes to organization and budget, the Municipality of Šavnik operates transparently and responsibly. The program will be aligned with the official protocol and participation of guests, and the public will be informed about all activities in a timely manner. It is our obligation to mark this anniversary in a way that reflects the values of a modern, European Montenegro - with dignity, inclusion and with a clear vision of the future," said Jakić's office.
The upcoming jubilee, the 20th anniversary of the restoration of state independence, will not be marked by all Montenegrin municipalities - "Vijesti" has been confirmed that Herceg Novi and Pljevlja will not do so.
