Talks on closing chapters 2 and 28 with Montenegro in Brussels

The draft common positions of the European Union for Chapters 2 (freedom of movement of workers) and 28 (consumer and health protection) in the accession negotiations with Montenegro are on the agenda of today's session of the EU Enlargement Working Group, it was confirmed in Brussels.

The agenda for today's session of the EU Working Group shows that the consideration of common positions is beginning, which is a step towards closing these two chapters, writes the RTCG portal.

The European Union and Montenegro had previously provisionally closed negotiating chapter 21, which concerns trans-European networks. This was made official at the Intergovernmental Conference on 17 March in Brussels.

Montenegro has opened all 33 negotiation chapters in the EU accession process. So far, 14 chapters have been provisionally closed.

The European Union emphasizes that further progress is conditional on the continuation of reform processes, strengthening institutions, and consistent implementation of adopted policies.

Montenegro, as the most advanced candidate for membership, is continuing negotiations with the aim of closing the remaining chapters and moving closer to full membership in the European Union, the Government said earlier.

The Government of Montenegro, as previously announced, has set a goal to close all chapters in negotiations with the EU by the end of this year, so that membership can be made official in 2028.
