The President of the Tivat Municipal Assembly and the head of the municipal board of New Serbian Democracy in that city, Miljan Marković, informed the public that a fake profile has appeared on the social network Facebook, attempting to assume his identity.
Marković said that the fake Facebook profile with his first and last name is "the latest form of pressure and an attempt at discrediting" in which his name and data are being misused.
"Friend requests and messages are being sent from that profile in my name, with the aim of misleading the public. Everything is identical, except for the difference compared to my official profile: the fake profile uses the Latin alphabet in its first and last name, sends messages in Latin, while I communicate in Cyrillic. Such attempts will not sway me or affect my work," said the speaker of the Tivat parliament.
Marković called on all citizens, if they receive requests from a fake profile posing as his name, to ignore them and report them to Facebook as fake.
"The competent authorities have been informed about the entire case, and I expect that the perpetrators will be identified and punished in accordance with the law," he stressed.
Marković said that politics, as a public activity, "carries with it the responsibility and obligation to act in the interests of all citizens."
"Whether it will be honorable or dishonorable depends solely on those who engage in it. I base my public engagement on the principles of general interest, transparency and consistency. It is precisely because of such an approach that in the past period you have witnessed numerous pressures directed at me, with the clear intention of departing from principles or changing my position. I want to make it clear that this will not happen," he said, assessing that the appearance of a fake profile on Facebook with his first and last name is a continuation of these pressures on him.
