There are currently 59 registered parties in Montenegro, according to data from the Ministry of Regional Investment Development and Cooperation with NGOs.
The list also includes those that merged into larger ones - such as the Workers' Party (RP) and the Right of Montenegro (PCG), which became part of the New Serbian Democracy (NSD).
The list also includes some parties that have not participated in elections for years, such as Positive Montenegro, the Montenegrin and Croatian Reform Parties, and the Serbian Radical Party.
Considering that Montenegro has around 620.000 inhabitants, it follows that there is one party per 10,5 thousand inhabitants.
The youngest party, according to the list of ministries Ernad Suljević, is the People's Trust Movement (PNP) led by the former Minister of Sports and former Vice President of the Socialist People's Party (SNP) Dragoslav Scekic. The PNP was founded on October 30th of last year.
During 2025, Montenegro became "richer" for three more parties - an MP who represents the Europe Now Movement (PES) club and a former official of the Justice and Reconciliation Party (SPP) Seid Hadzic founded the Bosniak Civic Alliance (BGA), the Turnaround Movement Srdjan Perić was registered as a party (previously it operated as a group of citizens), and at the beginning of the year the Albanian Renaissance was also founded Prele UjkajaUjkaj was a member of the Albanian Alternative (AA) Nika Đeljošaj in the Capital City Assembly, and was previously a member of the Democratic Alliance of Albanians (DSA), a party headed by the current Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Nikola Camaj.
After leaving the Albanian Alternative, Ujkaj became a critic of Đeljošaj and the local authorities in the Municipality of Tuzi.
And 2024 "brought" four parties.
Former officials of the Bosniak Party (BS) led by Sead Shahman, shortly after that political entity entered the Government Milojko Spajić, formed the Bosniak Democratic Movement (BDP).
Former Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Dusko Markovic founded the Party of European Progress (SEP) in that year, and the political scene was also enriched by the League of Communists of Yugoslavia - the League of Communists of Montenegro and the Democratic Alternative (DA). Davor Kumburović.
Marković and Kumburović were officials of the long-standing ruling party - the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).
It is not possible to determine the oldest parties, because the records have been kept since 2004, so the political entities that existed at that time were registered that year. AT
