Whoever consciously and continuously undermines relations with Croatia is deliberately hindering Montenegro's European path and placing themselves in the service of regional power centers, on whose orders they sabotage and slow down our country's accession to the European Union, it was announced on the occasion of the visit of the European Union to Croatia, consisting of Damir Šehović, Ivan Vujović, Vatroslav Belan and Amina Cikotić.
As announced by the European Union, their delegation is visiting Croatia and Slovenia as part of strengthening the regional and international affirmation of the policy that clearly positions Montenegro as a democratic, civic and unwaveringly pro-European state.
During the visit to Zagreb, meetings were held with the leaders of the Croatian Social Liberal Party, Dario Hrebak, Darko Klasić and Goran Kurevija, as well as with the president of the Center party, Marijana Puljak.
"The European Union delegation said that Montenegro needs a clear political shift towards a stable, responsible and truly European government, and that the upcoming elections represent a key moment that will define its further strategic direction. It was emphasized that Montenegro no longer has room to wander between the European path and policies that fundamentally distance it from the European system of values, but that it must make a clear decision between a modern European state and models that lead to isolation, populism and the influence of undemocratic centers of power," it was announced.
The European Union emphasized that they see Croatia as an important partner for Montenegro, especially in the final phase of its path towards membership in the European Union, and that they expect additional support from sister parties on that path.
Concern was also expressed about the moves of certain parts of the current government that "deliberately" damage relations with Croatia and thus slow down Montenegro's European path.
The European Union has stated that neither in terms of values and ideology, nor from the point of view of the interests of the European Union, enlargement to the Western Balkans must open up space for the influence of Russian proxies and new "Orbans".
It was particularly emphasized that the European future of Montenegro must not be compromised by political structures that are recognized in international circles as potential channels of influence for Russian interests and large-state projects in the Western Balkans.
The European Union emphasized that its role is to unite civic and progressive forces in society and to assume key responsibility in forming the future European government of Montenegro.
"The interlocutors clearly expressed support for the pro-European forces in Montenegro, emphasizing that the country also has the strong support of the Republic of Croatia on its reform and integration path. It was confirmed that the European Union has reliable partners and allies in Croatia who will strongly support Montenegro's European path and its soonest full membership in the European Union. The European Union continues with intensive international activities, convinced that a European Montenegro can only be built through strong partnerships, a clear policy and resolute opposition to all attempts to divert it from the European path," it was announced.
