I am disappointed that young people from DPS live in the old divisions established by Milo Đukanović. That they are not ready to take a step forward and at least try to contribute to reducing tensions and complete reconciliation of citizens on many issues. They choose the same path by which they want to keep half of the citizens of Montenegro in a subordinate position because they are Serbs, because they speak the Serbian language, because they love or do not hate Serbia.

This was announced by the Mayor of Nikšić and New Serbian Democracy (NSD) official Marko Kovačević after the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) rejected his offer to work together on marking Montenegrin Independence Day in the town near Trebjes.

Kovačević said yesterday that he has a different emotional relationship towards May 21st - Montenegro's Independence Day than they do, but that he is open to talking to the opposition and considering its proposals when it comes to marking that date.

The President of the Municipal Board of DPS Nikšić, Boris Muratović, announced this morning that sitting at the same table with those who have repeatedly attacked the state's dignity would demean this great holiday for every citizen of Montenegro who cherishes love for the homeland.

"After yesterday's misogynistic comment on Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos by DPS councilors in the local parliament, today we have evidence of who in Montenegro does not want the divisions to end and a common language to emerge in our society. Today we have an answer to the extended hand and the opportunity to do something together in which we could respect all citizens by showing mutual understanding and that not everything we disagree on necessarily has to be a point of division. It consists of the wishes that Montenegro never emerges from the divisions created in it by DPS, that we are forever divided into patriots and traitors and that we neglect the possibility that we can all do something together for our citizens," Kovačević stated in a press release.

"We are here," added the first man of the Municipality of Nikšić, "despite all the differences and difficult past on many issues, with the desire to contribute to reconciliation and to ensure that no one pays any price for their opinion or attitude towards events from the past, whether it is a referendum or a march, and that no one's rights are threatened by representatives of citizens and institutions."

"That's why, in the past five years, I have been the target of a mafia-media octopus that has precisely constructed alleged incidents and scandals in order to prevent the people of Nikšić and Montenegro from reconciling. Today, not everyone in Nikšić thinks the same politically or votes the same, but they talk about it freely. And they know that the mayor, even though they don't vote for him, is not their enemy, but the first address for help on many issues. Now DPS wants to prevent the whole of Montenegro from realizing this. They will not succeed in doing so, nor will they divert us from the path of reconciliation," he concluded.
