The key political goal of the European Union (EU) is to bring Montenegro into the European Union as a stable, democratic and civic state, free from Russian and Vučić's political influence, which has been slowing down its European path for years.
This was announced by the coalition during their meeting with the leadership of the Social Democratic Party of Croatia, which is being held "as part of intensifying political contacts with ideologically close partners in the region and the European Union."
"During the conversation, strong agreement was confirmed on key political and value issues, with the assessment that Montenegro must resolutely close the space for all forms of malignant influence that distance it from full membership in the European Union," the statement said.
The European Union emphasized that the coming period requires a clear political consolidation of pro-European forces and assuming responsibility for leading the country towards EU membership, without compromising on policies that keep Montenegro in a state of political and institutional instability.
As they said, it was pointed out that the deterioration of relations with European Union member states, especially in the immediate vicinity, directly affects the dynamics of the negotiation process and sends negative signals about the foreign policy orientation of the country.
"It was emphasized that Montenegro's European integration must be based on a clear value commitment, with full commitment to democratic standards, the rule of law and regional cooperation," they said.
The EC points out that the SDP Croatia Delegation, which included President Siniša Hajdaš Dončić, Vice-Presidents Ranko Ostojić, Mirela Ahmetović and Mišel Jakšić, Secretary General Marko Krička, International Secretary Joško Klisović, as well as the Mayor of Jastrebarsko Zvonimir Novosel, provided full support to the European Union and Montenegro's European path, with the belief that our country needs a credible and decisive pro-European policy that will accelerate the accession process and further strengthen its position within the European framework.
The European Union delegation consists of Damir Šehović, Ivan Vujović, Vatroslav Belan and Amina Cikotić.
