The Budva board of Democratic Montenegro announced that the best indicator of irresponsible city management by Nikola Jovanović and the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is that the city treasury is empty and there is no money to pay workers' salaries.
"There is an old saying that opponents should be allowed to make mistakes, but what the government in Budva is doing today goes beyond that. The municipality that boasted of a surplus today has no money for basic obligations, not even for salaries. This clearly shows how irresponsibly Nikola Jovanović and the Democratic Party of Socialists have managed, money has been squandered, all possible combinations have been made and exclusively personal and party interests have been satisfied. Instead of responsibility, the practice that brought Budva into problems continues, projects such as the WTE plant, the Budva cinema, the Adriatic Guard and the purchase of River Shipping are once again burdening the citizens' budget," the Democrats' statement states.
As they emphasize, "the best example is Zavala, a problem that DPS created and is now solving to the detriment of citizens."
"Such a solution should not have happened, the space should have been returned to the citizens so that they could valorize it, and not be used for new combinations. Additionally, reaching for pre-paid obligations from citizens and the economy only confirms the financial collapse. Budva does not deserve an administration that functions from today to tomorrow, nor a government that calls into question basic obligations to employees. Financial discipline, transparency and accountability are not political slogans, they are the minimums without which no local government can survive. The essence is clear, the problem of Budva is nothing more than the incompetence and bad intentions of Nikola Jovanović and the DPS, who spent money, created problems and are now solving them at the expense of the citizens," the Democrats' statement concludes.
