In defending the former director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK) Jelena Perović, the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) "defended the indefensible because it recognized itself in it," said Democratic Party MP Anđela Vojinović.
As she pointed out, the Perović verdict revealed two undeniable truths.
"First, the DPS defended the indefensible. They convinced citizens that everything was persecution, that everything was revenge, that everything was a political montage, and then the court said what they had been running away from for months, that there was responsibility, that there was abuse and that behind the big story about 'independent institutions' there was an old matrix, the state as someone else's wallet. Second: by defending her, they were actually defending themselves. Because Jelena Perović was not the only one in the system, she was a mirror of the system that they created, protected and used. That's why they defended her when they needed her, that's why they made a political defense out of her case, that's why they attacked the prosecution, that's why they tried to make a victim out of responsibility. And when the verdict came, when the truth became too heavy to bear, they let her down the drain," she said.
As he adds, that is the deepest truth of this verdict - "DPS never defends people out of principle, DPS defends its system."
"In the end, everything was laid bare, they defended the indefensible, because they recognized themselves in it. And when the indefensible fell, they did what they always do, they saved themselves, and let it sink," concludes Vojinović.
