MPs from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) are not participating in today's parliamentary session because the agreement with the collegium of the Speaker of the Assembly was not respected, said MP Sonja Popović from that party.
She said this at the beginning of the session, stating that the agreement was to only vote today on items on which the debate had been completed.
"However, as is usual practice, that agreement was broken, and last night we were informed that there would be discussions on two items on the agenda – starting at 18 p.m.," said Popović.
She pointed out that parliament cannot function on the principle of improvisation and ad hoc calls.
"The continued practice of scheduling sessions at the last minute undermines the seriousness of this institution and prevents the quality work of MPs who have the right to adequately prepare for the debate," Popović stated.
As she said, the explanation they received at the collegium is particularly worrying - that the entire dynamics of the parliament's work are being adjusted to the private or work obligations of the Ombudsman, who allegedly will not be in Montenegro in May, while at the same time the burden of poor organization is being shifted onto the MPs.
"We do not want to give legitimacy to this way of working, and therefore the DPS parliamentary group will not participate in today's session as a sign of protest against the continued damage to the reputation of the parliament and its members," said Popović.
The agenda of the Assembly session includes the election of the Deputy Ombudsman.
Ombudsman Siniša Bjeković thanked the members of the Parliament for, as he stated, tolerating the partial postponement of the statement.
"The Ombudsman Institution was engaged in a study visit, where we were demonstrators of what should be done in the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan, which is also a major new step forward in the institution itself," said Bjeković.
