Montenegro has unfailingly chosen the side of freedom throughout history, and anti-fascism was not the response of just one time, but an expression of historical and moral continuity, said Minister of Defense (MO) Dragan Krapović.
The Ministry of Defense announced that, on the occasion of marking May 9, Victory Day over Fascism and Europe Day, a solemn ceremony was held today at the Monument to the Partisan Fighter on Gorica Hill, attended by the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović, Krapović, the Mayor of Podgorica Saša Mujović, representatives of state institutions, the diplomatic corps, the Montenegrin Army and numerous citizens.
It is stated that Krapović emphasized that May 9th represents one of the brightest dates in contemporary history, a symbol of the victory of freedom over tyranny, humanity over evil, and a lasting vow of European peoples to build the future on peace, dignity, and togetherness.
He recalled the greatness of the July 13th Uprising and the sacrifice that Montenegro made in the fight against fascism, emphasizing that Montenegrin fighters were among the leaders of anti-fascist resistance in Europe.
Krapović emphasized that the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Montenegro continue to preserve the values of freedom, peace and dignity, through the development of a modern and strong defense system, investment in people and knowledge, modernization of capacities and strengthening of alliances.
"Our strength is not only in equipment and organization, but in the people who stand behind the state and the values it defends," Krapović emphasized.
He added that "the sacrifice that Montenegro made on the altar of freedom remains among the most powerful examples of European history."
"Young generations have woven their lives into the foundations of the state and moral being, obliging us to preserve freedom as the most sacred heritage and not to allow oblivion to cover up their work," said Krapović, stating that today, as throughout the centuries, we share the fate of the highest civilizational ideals.
It is stated that the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Montenegro stand guard over the values on which the modern world is based, aware that freedom is never taken for granted and is never given permanently, but is defended daily with responsibility, knowledge and unity, we are dedicated to developing and strengthening the state's defense system.
He stated that capacities are being modernized, investments are being made in people and knowledge, the ranks of the Army are being rejuvenated, partnerships are being strengthened, and Montenegro is being confirmed as a reliable ally and a responsible member of the international community.
"With deep reverence for our glorious ancestors and a clear responsibility to the generations to come, we renew a vow that transcends time, a vow of freedom, peace and dignity. That from the suffering of the past we draw strength and wisdom for the future. That in times of trial we remain steadfast and worthy of those who paid the highest possible price for freedom," concluded Krapović.
