Ivanovic: Citizens' support is the most important confirmation of the Government's reform course

The findings of the latest Eurobarometer confirm that Montenegro's European path enjoys strong and stable support from citizens, said Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović.

He emphasized that European integration increasingly represents a value and civilizational commitment for citizens.

"The Eurobarometer findings confirm what is the most important political and social fact of Montenegro today - that the European path of our country has strong and stable support from its citizens," said Ivanović.

He emphasized that the citizens of Montenegro do not perceive the European Union (EU) as an administrative goal, but as a natural framework to which Montenegro belongs historically, politically and culturally.

"It is particularly important that citizens increasingly perceive European integration as a matter of value and civilizational commitment. That is why the enlargement policy throughout history has been much more than a process of accession of new states - it has been a policy of unifying Europe. From the six founding states to today's 27 member states, and soon 28, each enlargement has meant more democracy and more security," Ivanovic pointed out.

Speaking about the country's European perspective, he assessed that Montenegro today is proof that the enlargement policy remains the most important instrument of European unification.

"Montenegro today is not only the most advanced candidate for EU membership, but also proof that the enlargement policy continues to be the most powerful instrument of European unification. Our European future represents both a confirmation of the success of that policy and an investment in the future of the European continent," said Ivanović.

He added that the growth of citizens' trust in institutions confirms that reform processes are yielding results, and that public support represents an additional incentive for the country's continuation of its European course.

"The growth of trust in institutions shows that reforms are yielding results, and the support of citizens remains the most important confirmation of the legitimacy of the work of the Government of Montenegro and an incentive for an even more determined continuation of the reform course, with a clear vision for Montenegro to become the next EU member," concluded Ivanović.

He sent a congratulatory message to the citizens on the occasion of May 9th.

"Happy Europe Day and Victory Day!", said Ivanovic.
