The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) councilors' club in the Nikšić Municipal Assembly (MA) announced today that their councilor Rajko Perović was the target of "political hooligans and primitive behavior."
"We condemn in the strongest terms last night's organized attempt to provoke, insult and discredit our councilor Rajko Perović, who was once again the target of political hooligans and primitive behavior that is increasingly becoming a trademark of the environment created by the current government," the statement said.
The DPS councilors' club points out that Perović behaved politely, calmly and correctly throughout the incident and agreed to be photographed with the people who approached him, only to avoid escalating the situation, although, as they claim, it was clear that their intentions were not good or accidental.
"...But exclusively an attempt to provoke, compromise and cause an incident, especially after showing content and messages with which they wanted to provoke a reaction and produce a political spectacle," the statement reads,
According to them, this is not an isolated incident.
They add that this is a continuation of the lynch atmosphere that "has been produced for years by government representatives and their henchmen, targeting anyone who dares to speak publicly about their abuses, incompetence, and the collapse of institutions."
"For the first time, councilor Perović reported such shameful behavior to the police, bearing in mind that his family members were with him. He has continuously suffered insults and attacks due to his opposition activities, and has never dealt with national and religious issues, but exclusively economic and social ones. When the government draws targets for political dissenters on a daily basis, when it calls for a showdown with them, when they are called SS divisions, then it is no wonder that those who think they have the right to monitor, provoke, film and intimidate opposition representatives appear on the streets," the statement from the DPS councilors' club in the Nikšić Municipal Assembly states.
They also said that the attempt to create a false image of a man who, as they state, tried to calm the entire situation and avoid any conflict is particularly worrying, through premeditated provocations and manipulations.
"The fact that he did not fall for provocations speaks best about who wanted the incident, and who showed seriousness and political culture. An important question arises: who organizes these and similar groups of people to create chaos in the city, on whose orders they do it, and who finances them!", it states.
They welcomed the "correct reaction of the police officers".
"...And we expect the competent authorities to fully shed light on this case, identify all participants and determine the possible political background and those who ordered this behavior. We know that they are bothered by Rajo Perović, his specific story and the exposure of all the misdeeds of the current rulers, so we are sending them a clear message: you will not intimidate either Rajo or the entire opposition in Nikšić. The more brutal the pressures and attacks, the stronger our action will be, with the increasingly obvious fact that the government is losing ground," the statement concludes.
