Instead of attempting political overreach and creating an illusion of strength, the mayor should submit a report on his work to the Capital City Assembly and allow councilors to clearly state both his results and whether he still has the necessary support to perform his duties, the European Union announced.
The European Progress Party (SEP) submitted today an initiative to have Miloš Mašković, the head of the European Union councilors' club in the Capital City Assembly, be the vice president of the city parliament, as well as an initiative to remove the president of the Capital City Assembly, Jelena Borovinić Bojović.
After today's meeting of the President of the Capital City Assembly, Jelena Borovinić Bojović, with the heads of the councilor clubs of the parties that make up the majority in Podgorica, which he attended, the Mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, said that the initiative to elect Mašković as Vice President of the Capital City Assembly is not acceptable to the ruling majority in Podgorica. Mujović said that the current opposition in Podgorica will never work for the good of the government or the good of the citizens.
"It seems that the ruling parties have seriously lost their way between political desires and elementary mathematics. The 'majority', which today has 27 councilors, out of the 31 needed for a majority in the Capital City Assembly, is obviously trying to use political spin to cover up what is clear to everyone, that it no longer has the legitimacy to present itself as the government," the European Union said in a statement.
The coalition assessed that everything except the statement of the councilors in the local parliament about the results of Mujović's work, after the mayor submits a report on his work, is a blank shot and a naked indicator of political and democratic immaturity, but also the inability of the Podgorica government to face the facts and the real situation in parliament.
