Borovinić Bojović: Some opposition councilors, in an attempt to seize a piece of power without elections, committed fouls

In recent days, some opposition councilors, in a clumsy rush and attempt to seize a piece of power without elections, have committed a series of fouls with the initiative to elect the vice president of the capital's assembly, announced today the president of the capital's assembly, Jelena Borovinić Bojović.

"They have shown either that they do not know the Statute and Rules of Procedure of the Assembly and the Law on Local Self-Government, or that they are not interested in them by trying to manipulate citizens. And primarily to their voters, in order to present themselves as doing something and trying. The lack of coordination among the signatories of the initiative is best demonstrated by the fact that it took almost two months to travel to the Assembly. My esteemed colleagues from the ruling coalition yesterday announced our common position that councilor Miloš Mašković does not have support for election to the position of deputy speaker of the Assembly, and reminded that the deputy speaker of the city parliament can only be elected upon the proposal of the president or president of the capital's Assembly," Borovinić Bojović emphasized in a statement.

She added that in this regard, she is taking the opportunity to inform the public in more detail.

"Namely, the Vice President of the Assembly of the glorious city is elected and dismissed by the Assembly of the Capital City, at the proposal of the President of the Assembly, in accordance with Article 86 of the Statute of the Capital City, Article 20 of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Capital City and Article 48 of the Law on Local Self-Government. Therefore, the Law, Statute and Rules of Procedure are quite clear," said Borovinić Bojović.

She stated that the positions of both the ruling coalition and her own are clear when it comes to this topic.

"As announced yesterday, the ruling coalition will hold consultations on the election of the deputy speaker of the capital's assembly in the coming days, and I believe it will soon come up with a concrete proposal. This government has achieved significant results in Podgorica in a short period of time, and our city has won the prestigious title of European Youth Capital for the first time in history, and has made a strong contribution to Montenegro's European integration. And the former government, which has been operating within the opposition for a few years, has wasted its mandate on petty obstructions and cheap tricks. I am sure that citizens will be able to adequately appreciate both," said Borovinić Bojović.

The ruling majority in Podgorica does not accept the initiative to elect Miloš Mašković, a councilor from the opposition European Union in the capital's Assembly, as the Vice President of the Assembly.

This was the message sent from yesterday's meeting between Borovinić Bojović and the heads of the councilor clubs of the parties that make up the majority in Podgorica. The meeting was also attended by Podgorica Mayor Sasa Mujović.

It was announced at the meeting that a session of the Capital City Assembly will be held within 15 days to consider the initiatives launched by the opposition in the previous period - namely the initiative to dismiss Borovinić Bojović and the opposition's initiative to have their representative Miloš Mašković elected as Vice President of the Capital City Assembly.

The authorities have announced that they will have their own proposals.

The European Progress Party (SEP) submitted an initiative yesterday to appoint Miloš Mašković, the head of the European Union councilors' club in the Capital City Assembly, as the vice president of the city parliament. The SEP also submitted an initiative yesterday to dismiss the president of the Capital City Assembly, Jelena Borovinić Bojović.

The City Assembly has not had a vice president since October 7th last year, when Movement for Podgorica councilor Dragutin Vučinić resigned from that position.
