President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović assessed that the visit to Estonia was extremely successful and carried out at the highest political level, emphasizing that the talks in Tallinn confirmed and strengthened Estonia's support for Montenegro's European path.
As announced by Milatović's public relations office, summarizing the visit, the president said that during the two days, substantive discussions were held with the highest Estonian officials on European integration, reforms, regional opportunities, and strengthening the resilience of society.
"I am pleased to announce that the Prime Minister of Estonia, on behalf of Estonia, will attend the EU-Western Balkans Summit on June 5 in Montenegro. I think this is very important," said Milatović.
He reportedly emphasized that Estonia is a friend of reforms and that, as long as Montenegro consistently progresses on the path of reform and fully harmonizes its foreign policy with that of the European Union, it will have one of its most important partners in that country.
Milatović stated that the talks in Tallinn were an opportunity to present what Montenegro has done in previous years, but also to openly discuss the challenges that still exist.
"The importance of strengthening society's resilience to external influences was particularly emphasized, as well as deepening cooperation in the areas of digital transformation and education, in which Estonia is one of the European and world leaders," the statement reads.
Milatović said that such visits are particularly important in the final phase of European integration, because ultimately each member state of the European Union will decide on Montenegro's membership.
"Ultimately, each of the member states must vote for our membership," the president said.
He recalled that the President of the Estonian Parliament expressed support for confirming Montenegro's future membership in the European Union, emphasizing that Montenegro must approach the reform plan even more responsibly and complete its obligations.
"When we finish the things that are up to us, all member states will approach the ratification of our full membership with even more goodwill," said Milatović.
Speaking about his participation in the Lennart Meri Conference, the President said that at a panel dedicated to resilience, he pointed out the importance of cooperation and partnerships in a time of pronounced global challenges, wars, and the economic consequences of crises.
"Montenegro has opened numerous doors and created new partnerships in the last few years, always keeping in mind the three key foundations of our foreign policy: good neighborly relations, NATO membership and European integration," concluded Milatović.
