The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, has arrived in Cyprus, where, at the invitation of the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, he will pay a working visit, the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro announced today.
The statement states that Milatović "will send an important message during his visit to Cyprus in the context of our European path."
"This will be an opportunity to once again send an important message that Montenegro is ready and wants to be the 28th member state of the European Union by 2028. It is precisely Montenegro's success story that would be the light at the end of the tunnel for all other candidate countries, and in this way an important message would be sent that enlargement is alive, that it is happening, and the optimism that is necessary in both the candidate countries and the EU itself would once again return."
The statement states that Milatović's visit to Cyprus comes at a time when Cyprus holds the presidency of the EU Council and thus significantly influences the creation of European priorities.
"It was during the last bilateral meeting between the two presidents on the sidelines of the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Brussels in December 2025 that President Milatović asked his Cypriot counterpart to start working on the working group for drafting the Treaty on the Accession of Montenegro to the EU, which happened a few days ago during the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the EU," said the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro.
