The flag of Montenegro was raised on Gojino Brdo above Šavnik, to mark the twentieth anniversary of the restoration of Montenegro's independence, the Municipality of Šavnik announced today.
"In anticipation of the historic jubilee - two decades since the restoration of Montenegrin independence - Gojino Brdo above Šavnik has become a meeting place of centuries-old tradition and visions of the future. With the completion of the memorial complex, this viewpoint has gained its final, dignified profile, sovereignly dominated by the flag raised high to the sky, as an eternal guard over our freedom-loving heritage," the statement states.
The Municipality of Šavnik added that raising the flag at the highest point of the hill is an act of supreme statesmanship.
"It is not just a symbol that defies the winds; it is a living testament to our existence, visible proof of the unwavering spirit of the people celebrating their most sacred holiday. At the very heart of this building, a newly built threshing floor pulses. Formerly a place of national assembly and fateful decisions, it today gains new, institutional strength, connecting ancestors and descendants into an unbreakable circle of togetherness," reads a statement from the local administration headed by Jugoslav Jakić (DPS).
The Municipality of Šavnik said that the sculpture by the prominent sculptor Marko Petrović Njegoš gives the space a special artistic and historical stamp.
"His work, with the symbol of a walnut on the pedestal, sends a strong message about the Montenegrin way of being: the walnut, as a hard shell and a healthy core, is a metaphor for a state that has preserved its essence, its sovereignty and its honor through the centuries in the harsh karst," said the Municipality of Šavnik.
According to Jakic, the municipality of Šavnik has, with this undertaking, framed the twenty-year journey of modern Montenegro in the most beautiful way, incorporating the work of local architects, top-notch art, and the brightest national symbols into the foundations of the complex.
"Everything is ready for the Ceremonial Academy, which will gather citizens and officials under the auspices of a high-raised flag. From today, Gojino Brdo is no longer just a geographical point - it is a national beacon and the pride of everyone who carries a free and eternal Montenegro in their hearts," said the Municipality of Šavnik.
