Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos is visiting Montenegro today to mark 20 years of the restoration of independence and to confirm the EU's strong support for Montenegro's accession process, the European Commission announced.
On this occasion, Kos will, as announced, deliver a keynote speech, in which he will tell the citizens of Montenegro that the next chapters of the common history of the EU and Montenegro will be written together.
Before that, he will meet with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and President Jakov Milatović, with whom he will discuss the country's progress on the path to EU membership, as well as the next steps in accession negotiations.
"Montenegro continues to make steady and consistent progress in the accession process. The country has opened all negotiation chapters and has provisionally closed 14 so far, reflecting continued progress in implementing EU-related reforms," the statement reads.
As "Vijesti" has learned, Kos will also meet with the head of parliament, Andrija Mandić.
The EC says that maintaining the current reform momentum, as well as broad political and social support for the European agenda, will be crucial for Montenegro's further progress on its path towards the EU.
