Lekić: NSD will wait to see the achievements and results of the initiative to withdraw recognition of Kosovo in the territory of Zeta

The New Serbian Democracy (NSD) and our councilors' club in Pljevlja will wait to see the achievements and concrete results of the initiative to withdraw the recognition of Kosovo in the territory of the Zeta municipality, before, as the dominant political force in our city, making a decision on possible support for such an idea in the Municipality of Pljevlja, announced today the President of the Municipal Board of the NSD Pljevlja and MP in the Parliament of Montenegro Milan Lekić.

"For now, we see that passengers with Kosovo documents continue to operate smoothly at the airport located in the territory of the Zeta municipality, and that vehicles with Kosovo registration plates move through that municipality without any problems. The impression is that the only consequence of this resolution is the possible disruption of relations between neighbors from Zeta and Malesija," Lekić pointed out in a statement.

He added that for them, "the issue of Kosovo and Metohija is not a matter of local initiatives without real effect, which are used exclusively for daily political purposes."

"Our relationship with the cradle of the Serbian people is spiritual, cultural and historical, and our MPs and councilors confirm this with concrete actions - by visiting our people in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as by supporting the Serbian Orthodox Church and its clergy, which devotedly cares for its people. Ten days ago, Montenegro was able to see that our party's MP Velimir Đoković was in Metohija, in Goraždevac with the clergy of the Serbian Orthodox Church and senior political representatives of the Serbian List in Kosovo. It was from that place that the message was sent that the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija today do not need harsh and inflammatory words, but support and wise moves that will ensure their security and survival," Lekić said.

"Vijesti" reported earlier today that it is increasingly likely that the proposed declaration by Milan Knežević's Democratic People's Party (DNP) on the annulment of the decision to recognize Kosovo could also receive the majority needed for adoption in the Pljevlja parliament, although some of the local councilors warn that the local assembly does not have the authority to deal with foreign policy issues.

The initiative was announced by DNP MP in the state parliament Vladislav Bojović, who announced on Thursday that the collection of signatures for convening a session of the Pljevlja Municipal Assembly (MA) to discuss the "declaration on the annulment and non-recognition of the decision to recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija" has begun.

The document requires at least 18 votes from councilors to be adopted. The parliamentary majority in the Pljevlja parliament until recently had 23 representatives, but the Europe Now Movement (PES), which has three councilors, recently left the ruling coalition.

According to statements made so far by councilors and parties from Pljevlja, the initiative has a chance of being adopted. The declaration, based on the current mood of the councilors, could receive the support of at least 16 to 18 of them, without a clear statement from PES and the ruling Democrats, which means that the position of these two groups could be crucial for the outcome of the vote.

If the NSD, led by the President of the Parliament of Montenegro Andrija Mandić, which is part of the government, supports the initiative together with the DNP, the Movement for Pljevlja, United Montenegro and some independent councilors, the majority needed to adopt the declaration would practically be secured.

Councilors in the Zeta Municipal Assembly recently voted on a declaration annulling the decision to recognize Kosovo in the territory of that municipality.

In addition to DNP councilors, representatives of the NSD, Marko Vukčević from the Democrats, and independent councilors Nikola Rajović, Svetozar Ulićević, and Lidija Panić also raised their hands in support of this.

DPS members did not attend the session, and Democratic Party representatives Aleksandra Petričević and Luka Krstović left the hall before the vote.
