Milatović: Montenegro has shown that it is ready for a big European job, it will become an EU member in 2028

Montenegro has shown that it is ready for a big European job, said Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, and announced that the country will fulfill its strategic goal and become a member of the European Union (EU) by 2028.

"Europe has been a guest of Montenegro for the past two days. Together, we sent a strong message from Tivat: Montenegro will achieve its strategic goal and become the 28th member of the EU by 2028," said Milatović.

Milatović stated that the historic visit of French President Emmanuel Macron and the EU-Western Balkans Summit are two events of exceptional importance for the future of Montenegro.

"Montenegro has shown organizational maturity, state seriousness and our traditional hospitality," said Milatović.

He added, as announced by the President's Office, that European partners and colleagues from the region have seen how Montenegro welcomes friends.

"Dignified, responsible and with full respect for every guest," said Milatović.

He stated that his team had been working diligently for months to organize these events.

"That is why they deserve our recognition and sincere gratitude for their effort, dedication and determination to do such a great thing for Montenegro. They are the silent heroes of the success witnessed by the domestic and international public," said Milatović.

He thanked the Police Directorate, the Army of Montenegro and members of the security sector, the Airports of Montenegro, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Municipality of Tivat, Radio and Television of Montenegro, businessmen, members of the Organizing Committee, volunteers, artists and all services and participants of the program who showed that Montenegro can respond to the most demanding state tasks.

"This Summit has brought new energy and additional responsibility to Montenegro. The end of the European path lies ahead of us," said Milatović.

This, he added, is the job of institutions, society "and our generation that believes that Montenegro belongs to the European family."

"We promised citizens a European future. We will finish that job. Montenegro will be the 28th member of the EU by 2028," Milatović concluded.
