Đukanović: Incidents ahead of summit are a consequence of irresponsible policies that threaten good neighborly relations and the region's EU path

Former multiple president and prime minister of Montenegro and honorary president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Milo Đukanović, assessed that the events on the eve of the EU-Western Balkans Summit, related to the delay in Tivat and the return of a charter flight from Belgrade, which also included some persons of security interest, are the result of irresponsible politics that does not take into account good neighborly relations or the common European path of the region.

In an interview with Federal Television, Đukanović said that Montenegro did not need such incidents at a time when it is knocking on the door of the European Union (EU).

"It is clear to everyone who needed this. Montenegro certainly did not. By organizing this event, Montenegro has shown seriousness and the ability to overcome the challenges on that last stretch to membership and has shown that it is justified in the position of a leader who will soon become the first new EU member state. This, as I told you, is an expression of a frivolous, irresponsible policy, a policy that does not count on good neighborliness, nor does it count on becoming an integral part of the European Union together with other countries in the region in the near future," he said.

He added that this is, as he put it, "autistic politics," which tries to emphasize its own importance through incidents.

"This is the result of an autistic policy that, I would say, satisfies all its interests in creating such incidents in order to emphasize its own importance, and I would say that all of this really works to the deep detriment of the national interests of their country," said the former president of Montenegro.

When asked by a journalist if he was referring to Serbia and President Aleksandar Vučić, Đukanović replied: "Of course."
