It is important to continue with concrete steps that will contribute to the permanent preservation of the memory of the innocent victims of the tragic Piva, through an adequate place for this topic in educational programs, the development of memorial content and the marking of the Day of Remembrance, announced today the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Montenegro for the Political System, Judiciary and Anti-Corruption, Momo Koprivica.

"On June 7, we pay tribute with deep respect to the innocent victims who perished in Piva. Their suffering remains permanently in the collective memory and represents an indelible part of the historical memory of Montenegro. By preserving the memory of the innocent victims in the crucified Piva, we confirm our commitment to the values ​​of peace, anti-fascism, human dignity and mutual respect," Koprivica emphasized in a statement.

He added that by adopting the Resolution on the Genocide in Piva and Velika, the Parliament of Montenegro "has made an important civilizational step forward in cultivating the culture of remembrance, paying tribute to the innocent victims, and affirming the universal values ​​of human dignity and justice."

"This sent a clear message that the suffering of the innocent must be part of the culture of remembrance, for the sake of truth and responsibility towards future generations. It is important to continue with concrete steps that will contribute to the permanent preservation of the memory of the innocent victims of the tragic Piva, through an adequate place for this topic in educational programs, the development of memorial content and the marking of a day of remembrance. We are obliged to do this by what is defined by the Resolution, but above all by our debt to innocent victims and future generations," said Koprivica.
