Podgorica: Government representatives will propose a candidate for President of the Capital City Assembly by the end of the week

Representatives of the authorities in Podgorica agreed today to come up with a candidate for President of the Capital City Assembly by the end of the week.

Deputy Mayor Nađa Ljiljanić (Movement for Podgorica) told reporters after the meeting that they hoped to have a candidate sooner, but she did not want to talk about the names of the candidates.

"I wouldn't bid on names because it might not be fair. But I have great respect and appreciation for all my colleagues in the councillors' circle. So I hope that they will decide on a credible person who will be able to represent the Capital City Assembly and that we will have a functional Assembly in the coming period," she said.

When asked whether the Democratic People's Party (DNP) candidate was acceptable to them, she replied that any candidate agreed upon by the For the Future of Podgorica coalition was acceptable to them.

Today's meeting, in addition to Ljiljanić, was attended by Miloš Krstović and Drago Šundić from PzPG, then councilors from New Serbian Democracy (NSD) Mitar Šušić and Stefan Vešović, Bogdan Božović and Maša Stevović and the Socialist People's Party (SNP), Mitar Paunović from the Democrats, as well as Mayor Saša Mujović and Anđela Mićović from the Europe Now Movement (PES).

Last week, the Democratic People's Party (DNP) councilor club nominated the party's councilor Ivana Mašković for the position of President of the Capital City Assembly, stating that if this is not acceptable to the majority and "blackmail" and conditions continue, it will support the election of Preokret councilor Srđan Perić to the position.

Perić announced that he would run for President of the Capital City Assembly in order to unblock the work of the local parliament.
