Mikić: Parliamentary groups to support the formation of the Inquiry Committee for Sveti Stefan and Miločer

We call on all parliamentary groups in the Parliament of Montenegro to support the formation of the Inquiry Committee for Sveti Stefan and Miločer, in order to establish before the public all relevant facts regarding decisions, contracts, settlements and actions of state authorities in this case, said Zoran Mikić, MP from the Civic Movement URA.

He announced in a press release that the MPs of the GP URA will support the formation of inquiry committees in the case of the major train accident on Bioč and the "Eagle's Flight" operation.

"We believe that every important issue that burdens the public must receive an institutional epilogue, so in the case of Sveti Stefan we demand full transparency, accountability and establishing the facts without political calculations," said the MP GP URA.

The party said that Sveti Stefan is one of the most recognizable symbols of Montenegro, its tourist offer, cultural heritage and natural wealth.

"That is precisely why no decision concerning this space should be made far from the eyes of citizens, nor without full institutional and public control," the statement added.

The GP URA believes that the inquiry committee on this topic is a matter of responsibility towards the citizens, the residents of Sveti Stefan who demand it, Budva and the overall public interest of Montenegro. They say that citizens have the right to know who, when, based on what assessments and in whose interest made decisions regarding one of the most valuable resources of our country.

"We call on government and opposition MPs to show political maturity and support this initiative and sign it. Those who have nothing to hide have no reason to be afraid of establishing the facts," the statement said.

In that movement, they also emphasized that Sveti Stefan must be preserved as a public, state, and national interest, and not be the result of closed agreements, political calculations, or arrangements that have not been sufficiently explained to citizens.

"The formation of the Inquiry Committee is a minimum of responsibility towards one of the most beautiful and most important areas of Montenegro. Therefore, we expect this initiative to receive the necessary support from MPs," Mikić concluded.
