Bajraktari: Ulcinj is paying the price of irresponsible government in chaos, changes are necessary in 2027

In June, we are witnessing construction work and machinery on all sides of the city, while communal order is practically non-existent. There are almost no capital investments, and what is being implemented is happening at a very slow pace, said the president of the Municipal Board of the Civic Movement URA Ulcinj, Omer Bajraktari, assessing that Ulcinj is welcoming the tourist season for the third year in a row without adequate preparations.

Bajraktari points out that the local government has not taken any serious action to extend the tourist season, although this is the practice of all developed tourist destinations. "While serious tourist destinations are working to extend the tourist season, we are shortening it at the expense of the construction season. This is not a coincidence, but a consequence of the way the city has been managed for the last two years," he said in a statement.

Speaking about the work of the current local government, he assessed that its results have been lacking despite the passage of two years since the change of government.

"People and parties without electoral legitimacy came to power, with experience in political bargaining and blackmail. That is why their results cannot be any different from what citizens have seen so far, stagnation and damage to the development of Ulcinj," said Bajraktari.

He also pointed to the increase in costs borne by citizens, stating that the quality of services has not kept up with the rise in prices.

"Today, citizens pay 60 percent more for garbage collection, and the city is no cleaner. They also pay 60 percent more in property taxes, while that money goes to an ever-increasing administration. They pay more for water, and its quality has never been worse," he said.

Bajraktari reminds that some projects that are being implemented today were prepared and financially secured during the mandate of the previous local government, while numerous announced projects have not yet begun.

"The City Park near Velika Plaza, the Souvenir Market and Mujo Street in Ulcinj are projects that were fully prepared by the previous government we led. On the other hand, projects such as the extension of the boulevard near the Post Office, the City Stadium and a five-star hotel in the city center have not even started, which shows that the current government does not have the political, professional or administrative capacity to implement them," he said.

"Ulcinj and its citizens do not deserve stagnation and spatial degradation. That is why changes are necessary and I am convinced that they will come at the first local elections in 2027," concluded Bajraktari.
