Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović, Minister of Interior Danilo Šaranović and Director of the National Security Agency Ivica Janović signed today the Agreement on Interoperability between the three institutions, which, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MVP), represents a significant step towards improving the Montenegrin visa system and harmonizing it with European Union standards.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the agreement is the result of intensive cooperation between the institutions involved, professional harmonization of the text of the agreement at the expert level, and obtaining a positive opinion from the European Commission on its draft.
Ibrahimović emphasized that the agreement represents an official confirmation of the achieved interoperability of the system of institutions participating in the visa issuance process, whereby Montenegro, as stated, fulfills one of the important obligations from the Reform Agenda.
"Achieving this goal creates the conditions for the release of 3,5 million euros in grants intended for further reform processes. At the same time, this is an important step in the comprehensive reform of visa procedures and standards in line with the acquis communautaire," Ibrahimović said.
According to him, the end result of this process will be the establishment of a new Visa Information System and e-visa system, which will enable more efficient, modern and secure management of visa procedures.
"This will contribute to greater accessibility of the Montenegrin visa, and further promote Montenegro as an attractive tourist and investment destination, while at the same time improving security checks and the overall security of the visa system," said Ibrahimović.
He thanked all institutions that participated in the preparation of the agreement, as well as the Delegation of the European Union and the International Organization for Migration for their support during the process.
Ibrahimović assessed that the agreement confirms that inter-institutional cooperation, with the support of European partners, yields concrete results and represents another step on Montenegro's European path.
