Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović will address members of the European Parliament (EP) in Strasbourg on Tuesday and, as announced by his office, will present the results Montenegro has achieved in the integration process, the vision for completing accession negotiations and expectations for the next phase of the negotiation process.
The statement states that Milatović will speak in parliament at the invitation of the president of that European Union (EU) body, Roberta Metsola, and says that this is an important step towards Montenegro's membership in the Union.
"The address comes at a particularly important moment for Montenegro, following the EU-Western Balkans Summit held in Tivat, which brought together the highest European and regional officials and further confirmed the European perspective of the region," Milatović's office said.
As they added, just a few days later, Montenegro will present its European vision, achieved progress and ambition to become the 28th member of the EU before one of the most important institutions of the Union.
"Milatović's address to the EP represents another important diplomatic step in strengthening Montenegro's international position and providing stronger political support for accelerating its European path," the cabinet said.
They recalled that Milatović's address to the institution that will play a key role in the final phase of Montenegro's accession comes at a time when the country is leading the European integration process in the region and when discussions about the next enlargement of the Union are becoming increasingly intense.
"Milatović will present to the European parliamentarians the results that Montenegro has achieved in the integration process, the vision of completing the accession negotiations and the expectations of our country in the next phase of the negotiation process," the statement said.
It is recalled that in previous years the EP has been a platform for addresses by numerous European and world leaders, which, as stated, further confirms the political weight of Milatović's address in Strasbourg.
"The invitation to Milatović to address the EP represents a strong political signal and confirmation of his role in positioning Montenegro as a leader in European integration in the region," the cabinet said.
