GRECO notes progress in implementing recommendations

The Council of Europe's Committee for the Evaluation of Anti-Corruption Measures (GRECO) has noted progress in the implementation of its recommendations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced.

As they said, the Montenegrin delegation presented to GRECO the progress made in implementing recommendations aimed at strengthening integrity, transparency and ethical standards in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other institutions included in the evaluation process.

"During the presentation of the report, concrete results that Montenegro has achieved through improving the normative and institutional framework for preventing corruption, strengthening the integrity system, developing mechanisms for managing conflicts of interest, as well as through further strengthening the culture of responsibility and professional ethics in the performance of public functions were highlighted. Special focus was on activities that contributed to more efficient implementation of GRECO recommendations, including improving internal procedures, developing preventive mechanisms, strengthening the capacities of competent institutions and continuous education of public function holders on ethical standards and principles of good governance," the statement said.

Danilo Šaranović's department added that Montenegro has in the past period "demonstrated a strong commitment to meeting international standards in the fight against corruption, recognizing that integrity, transparency and accountability are key prerequisites for strengthening citizens' trust in institutions and further progress on the European path."

"During the review of the report, GRECO representatives noted the progress made and the activities undertaken to implement the recommendations, confirming that Montenegro continues to invest significant efforts in building an efficient system of corruption prevention and promotion of ethical behavior. Montenegro remains committed to further improving standards of integrity and ethics, as well as to the full implementation of remaining activities in order to achieve the highest European standards in the area of ​​the rule of law, accountability and good governance," the Ministry of Interior said.
