GI 21 May: Parliamentary parties are an obstacle to reforms, the Upheaval platform is a productive alternative for Podgorica

The Civic Initiative (GI) on May 21 announced that parliamentary parties, regardless of whether they are part of the government or the opposition, represent an obstacle to systemic reforms and concrete measures that would make society better, more just and fair, and that therefore the unblocking platform based on public interest offered by Preokret in Podgorica is the right and productive alternative.

This civic initiative assesses that narrow party and personal interests are often hidden behind the pro-European rhetoric of political parties.

"Behind pro-European rhetoric, there are always monstrous party figures and personal interests wrapped in party principles and proclamations," the statement said.

GI 21 May believes that individuals in political parties who advocate for public interest and reform policies are marginalized or, as they state, reduced to democratic ficuses, while others are victims of a defective party spirit.

"That is why the development of non-partisan initiatives, as well as the empowerment of smaller political groups that understand what is at stake here, is of crucial importance for the radical transformation of the political class. The crisis of power in the capital is also a clear indicator of self-serving party politics. That is why the unblocking platform based on public interest offered by Preokret is the right and productive alternative," the statement from GI 21. maj states.

According to their position, the capital does not need new local elections, nor an oligarchic service, but a model of democratic and supervisory administration that would function until the regular local elections next year.

"It remains to be seen whether a political majority will be formed that will be forced to support the anti-party and pro-civic platform offered by Preokret," the statement concludes.
