The Movement for Podgorica will not vote for Perić because he is supported by the opposition

The Movement for Podgorica (PzPG) will not support the candidacy of the leader and councilor of the Preokret Movement, Srđan Perić, for President of the Capital City Assembly, as it is supported by opposition parties, the political entity announced.

As they state, PzPG has, from the very beginning, fundamentally advocated the position that the introduction of compulsory administration in the Capital is unnecessary and represents a major political mortgage for the current ruling majority.

"Such a scenario would be an essential admission that the ruling coalition has failed to deliver what was promised to the citizens, despite the numerous positive results that this city administration has achieved in the previous period. The resignation of the President of the Capital City Assembly, Ms. Jelena Borovinić Bojović, surprised us as constituents of the previous ruling majority. We are of the opinion that this was an irresponsible political move that further complicated the situation in the functioning of the local parliament, especially after the decision of the Democratic People's Party (DNP) councilors to withdraw from the signed coalition agreement," they said.

They add that "the development of events has shown that what they have been pointing out from day one is true, which is that this act potentially calls into question the position of Mayor Saša Mujović, creating additional institutional and political uncertainty in the Capital City."

"The position of the PzPG has been clear and consistent from the beginning - a way out of the current situation should have been found through respect for the coalition agreement and an agreement between the partners currently in power in Podgorica, by proposing a candidate for President of the Capital City Assembly from among the parties that make up the current majority. Guided by this intention, we initiated talks between the current coalition partners and representatives of the DNP in order to reach a compromise that would not be to the detriment of any constituent of the government, nor of Mayor Saša Mujović, and would certainly be in the interest of the citizens of Podgorica who do not want new political turbulence just a year after the local elections," they said.

They point out that, even after several formal and informal meetings with colleagues from the coalition, they were unable to reach a solution that would provide the necessary political consensus.

"We still believe that a candidate for President of the Capital City Assembly, who would be supported by the councilors of the Europe Now Movement, the coalition For the Future of Podgorica and the Democrats, would represent the best and most sustainable solution for overcoming the current political crisis in Podgorica. For this reason, PzPG cannot support the candidacy of Srđan Perić, bearing in mind that he is currently supported by councilors from opposition parties. On the other hand, we consider Perić's initiative, which seeks to avoid the introduction of compulsory administration in the Capital City, to be politically legitimate," they said.

"The Movement for Podgorica will, as before, continue to act responsibly, principledly and exclusively in the interests of citizens, advocating for political stability, functional institutions and respect for assumed political obligations," they conclude.
