Anniversary of Montenegro's independence marked in Denmark

On the occasion of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Montenegro's independence, the Embassy of Montenegro in Denmark organized a ceremonial reception in Copenhagen, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

As they said, the ceremony was attended by a large number of distinguished guests, including representatives of the diplomatic corps in Copenhagen, Minister of Diaspora Mirsad Azemović, Secretary General of the Government of Montenegro, as well as state secretaries of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro and Denmark.

"Also, the reception was attended by the Secretary of the Secretariat for Legislation of Montenegro, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, representatives of the Montenegrin diaspora, as well as other prominent figures from political, cultural, academic and business life. The attendees were addressed by the Ambassador of Montenegro to Denmark, Snežana Radović, who emphasized that over the past twenty years, guided by a clear strategic vision, Montenegro has remained completely consistent with the foreign policy priorities set after the restoration of independence. Also, Ambassador Radović recalled the European Union - Western Balkans Summit held in Tivat, where it was confirmed that Montenegro is the most advanced candidate for membership and that it is in the final phase of the negotiation process," the statement reads.

She pointed out that work on the Accession Treaty is already underway, which proves that reform efforts and clear political determination are the best response to the challenges of the contemporary international environment.

In light of the complex geopolitical circumstances and Russian aggression against Ukraine, she emphasized the strategic importance of the enlargement policy as a guarantor of stability and democratic development, stating that the integration of the Western Balkans represents a European issue of strategic importance.

The Ambassador expressed special gratitude to the Kingdom of Denmark for its continued support and emphasized that the partnership between the two countries goes beyond the European agenda through close bilateral cooperation, which has been further strengthened by the opening of the Embassy of Montenegro in Copenhagen.

As part of the anniversary celebration, a special reception was organized at the Embassy for representatives and supporters of the Association of Friends of Montenegro and Denmark.

On that occasion, Minister of Diaspora Mirsad Azemović emphasized that the Montenegrin diaspora represents an inseparable part of society and an important pillar of Montenegro's development.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional ties with emigrants and called on the diaspora to continue to contribute to the progress and international affirmation of Montenegro with its knowledge, experience and international contacts.
